The substrate does the work
A floor tile is only as good as the surface beneath it. We check for deflection, damp, contamination and level, then prime, level or over-board as needed. Floor tiles are bedded solid — no five-dot blobs — so there are no voids to crack under load.
Large-format porcelain floors
Big tiles need a flat background. We use a suitable levelling compound or screed first, then back-butter and use levelling clips where the format demands it. Movement joints are placed at perimeters and across large runs so the floor can expand and contract without blowing grout lines.
Underfloor heating
Electric mats and wet systems both need a flexible S1 adhesive, a decoupling membrane where the substrate is risky, and a slow first heat-up. We test the circuit before tiling and after tiling so responsibility is clear.
Outdoor porcelain and patios
Outdoor floors get frost, rain and thermal shock. We lay 20mm outdoor porcelain on a full mortar bed with slurry primer, set falls away from the building, and use frost-proof flexible adhesives and grouts throughout.
Commercial floor tiling
Shops, restaurants, offices and washrooms need the right slip rating, coving and expansion joints. We work to programme, document materials and leave a floor that passes inspection.
