Tiling service

Outdoor porcelain patios, balconies and paths

Outdoor tiling is unforgiving. Get the falls, the adhesive or the grout wrong and the first hard winter will lift the lot. We lay 20mm porcelain patios, balconies and steps that survive British weather.

What we cover

  • 20mm outdoor porcelain patios and pathways
  • Balcony and terrace tiling over waterproof membranes
  • Correct falls and drainage set out before laying
  • Frost-proof, flexible adhesives and grouts throughout
  • Steps, risers and matched indoor-to-outdoor thresholds

The base does the work

A porcelain patio is only as good as what is underneath it. We build up a compacted sub-base and a full mortar bed with slurry primer, rather than the five-blob method that leaves hollow tiles waiting to crack.

Drainage and falls

Every outdoor floor gets a fall away from the building — typically 1:80 — and finishes at least 150mm below the damp-proof course. Where that is not possible we design in a channel drain rather than hoping for the best.

Seamless inside to out

Many porcelain ranges come in a 10mm indoor and a 20mm outdoor version of the same tile. Run them through a level threshold and the kitchen visually continues into the garden — one of the highest-impact things you can do to a rear extension.
