How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?
Honest 2026 labour prices from a tiling company that works in London, Essex and Cambridge every week — with the real reasons one bathroom costs twice as much as another.

Labour and sundries only. “Retile” assumes sound, flat surfaces. “Full preparation” includes strip-out, boarding, levelling and tanking where the shower needs it.

What pushes the price up
- Tile size — large-format slabs need two people, back-buttering and a flatter substrate
- Tile finish — polished porcelain, marble and glass mosaic cut slower and chip easier
- Pattern — herringbone, chevron and brick bond add 20–40% more cutting
- Substrate — springy timber floors and blown plaster need boarding or levelling first
- Wet room detailing — tanking, formers, falls and drain cuts add labour per m²
- Access — upper-floor flats, permit parking and lift bookings add time to every delivery

- How much does it cost to tile a bathroom in the UK?
- For a standard family bathroom with 20–25m² of wall and floor tiling, expect roughly £1,100–£1,800 in labour for a straightforward retile onto sound surfaces, and £2,200–£3,500 where the room is stripped back, boarded, tanked and finished as a wet room. Tiles and materials are on top.
- How much does a tiler charge per day in London?
- Most established tilers in London and Essex work to a day rate of about £250–£350 for one fixer, or price the job per square metre. We normally price per m² so you know the whole cost up front rather than paying for slow days.
- How much does it cost to tile a small bathroom?
- A small bathroom or en-suite with 12–16m² of tiling usually lands between £750 and £1,200 in labour for a straight retile. Small rooms have proportionally more cutting around the bath, basin and WC, so the per-m² rate is often at the higher end.
- Is it cheaper to tile just the walls or the whole bathroom?
- Doing the walls and floor in one visit is cheaper per square metre than two separate trips, because setting out, protection and mixing time are shared. If budget is tight, full-height tiling in the shower and half-height elsewhere is the usual compromise.
- Do you supply the tiles?
- You are free to buy your own — the prices on this page are labour and sundries. We can also supply through our trade accounts, which usually beats retail on porcelain, and we will tell you the actual m² needed including 10% for cuts and breakages.
- How long does it take to tile a bathroom?
- A standard bathroom is typically 3–5 working days: one day for strip-out and preparation, two to three days tiling, then grouting and silicone once the adhesive has cured. Wet rooms add a day for tanking and its cure time.
